Two motorcyclists are dead and a third has been left with serious injuries after a horrific night on Melbourne’s roads.
Victoria Police said emergency services were called to Cranbourne East, in the city’s south east, shortly after 8:30pm on Tuesday following reports of a collision.
They said a car and a motorcycle had collided at the intersection of Thompsons Rd and Wheelers Park Dve. The rider of the motorcycle, a 41-year-old from the neighbouring suburb of Clyde, died at the scene.
Earlier on Tuesday a motorcyclist died in Upper Ferntree Gully, in the city’s east, where police said a 23-year-old rider hit a traffic sign on Clow Ave just after 4pm.
Shortly before 10pm a third motorcyclist, a 20-year-old Wheelers Hill man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after crashing into a tree on Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd at Olinda.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed on Wednesday morning the man had been airlifted to the Alfred Hospital with upper body injuries and was in a stable condition.
The crashes have continued what is proving to be a disastrous 2023 on Victoria’s roads.
According to the Transport Accident Commission, 94 people have lost their lives this year as of midnight on Monday, an increase of 23.7 per cent compared to the same time last year.
It comes after a horror weekend which claimed the lives of two people, including 25-year-old Keana Mokbel, the niece of underworld figure Tony Mokbel.
